Farm Diary 2006

9th November 2006

So much for the monthly updates I had planned! As I am constantly reminded, the last diary entry was JUNE!!    Where has it all gone? All that time ?

Leehouse has a new team on board now so maybe I might get the odd chance to diary a bit more?
The new chaps, Jors, Colin and Nick are all busy soaking up the Leehouse ethos and making a big difference already.
Nick and Colin have recently trained in Lamb butchery, so any fingers you find amongst your lamb chops should be returned asap please.

They are all doing a grand job. They have created our very own Leehouse steakburger (which tastes gorgeous!!) from our beef and taking some of the pressure off in the butchery generally. We have been doing tasting sessions at market and have been serenaded with oohs and ahhs, which is always pleasant.

Turkey time again.
I bought a new house (glorified polytunnel) for them this year, safe in the knowledge that it would be delivered ages before the little darlings would be big enough to move in!
Course, it then gets delivered late and turns up damaged and incomplete. Move on…
Its' subsequent erection becomes as one of the trials of Ulysses and threatens to swallow all our Time and patience!    Luckily, a passing saint, namely Nobby the Elder leaps to our rescue and makes it his life's work to see Turkey Towers completed.   Thank you Nobby!

Trouble is, nobody in the design team took account of true free range, fully taloned Bronze turkeys wishing to gain top roosting position ON TOP OF THE BLOODY THING!
Turkeys are fairly clumsy but very determined birds.
In their efforts to gain a toehold on the shiny plastic of the roof, they have ripped it to shreds!!
You can imagine our faces when we first started to notice the daily damage.
Still, the manufacturer does provide a roll of repair tape so all is not lost.
Oh, how we laughed!    Will post an action shredding picture if I get a chance.

Turkeys are looking very good and healthy and Mr Fox has kept away so far.

Hope you all had a good Summer and looking forward to Xmas .
Look forward to seeing you all at Market.
